Summer Projects

Welcome to August and the final weeks of Summer 2023! It’s definitely been a busy summer around WSD with projects being completed, attending professional development, hiring new staff, and planning for the 2023-24 school year, BUT we hope you’ve all had some time to relax, refresh, and recharge.

Here are some updates on things that have happened or happening around WSD this summer/fall:

Projects: 👷🛠️

  1. Replaced Mattawa Elementary HVAC system.

  2. Replacing 6 of 8 AC unit compressors on the HS gym roof. 2 went down this past May, and 4 units have not worked for nearly 5 years.

  3. Collected nearly 2,500 student devices, repaired, serviced, and updated for 2023-24.

  4. Replaced damaged fiber from Boundary Ave. to WHS.

  5. Moved HR & Finance Dept. from the Port to the District Office. By Spring Break, we plan to have the CBHA/WSD portable in place at the north end of the HS gym parking lot (next to the Multilingual & Multicultural portable, M2). The CBHA/WSD portable will be a Wellness Center housing mental health, a nurse, a part-time doctor, and SPED services.

  6. Replaced Fire Panel at WJH.

  7. Replacing the soffit around ME & WJH exterior.

  8. Sanded-down floors to be refinished, and cleaned of all kitchen grease traps.

  9. Pulled carpet and installed new VCT tile at SME main entrance.

  10. Painted 2 exterior portables and all the WSD sheds to match current portable colors. In addition, painted several classrooms and parking lots.

  11. New roof was installed at 1 Pre-K portable, and added more rubber at all WSD playgrounds.

Other Projects:

  1. The Maintenance team has cleaned all the grease traps, restored the wood doors, sanded all gyms, and repainted parking lines and is working on Akitabox tickets as our staff is starting to trickle on campus.

  2. Pepsi's partnership is official, WSD can expect various sports branding with this partnership. Some schools have also welcomed snack and drink vending machines. 305 of the funds from these new machines will go back to the building it is located in.

  3. WSD’s reader board is currently off due to some maintenance on the back end. We are working to outsource the maintenance upkeep.

  4. The Tech team has also had a busy summer with various projects, such as re-wired all the elementary computer carts. Inventoried all tech, updated and relabeled all Chromebooks. As well as sent out 12% of the damaged JHR Chromebooks.

  5. They have set up 7 Promethean Boards at SME, a fully automated student roster in Clever, set up the Apple lab, and updated all computer labs at WHS. Moved/set up tech for the business office and district office as well.
